Solving
Problems With Your HP DeskJet Writer 500
If your
Hewlett-Packard DeskJet Writer 500 is printing white
lines, incomplete characters, missing dots or some
other type of unintended output, you may be able to
improve print quality in a few easy steps.
1. Open
your printer and remove the print cartridge. Use
a soft cloth, slightly dampened with water, to
clean accumulated paper dust and ink from the
metal platen, cartridge guide and paper feed
rollers. (Check your user manual if youíre
uncertain which is which).
2. Look at the print cartridge to make sure the
protective tape shipped on it his been removed
from the nozzle and vent.
3. Use a damp cloth to clean the print cartridge
cradle and the contacts on the print cartridge.
4. Place the cartridge back into the printer,
making sure it is installed correctly. Now, press
the "Clean" button (Don't do this
often; it will shorten the life of your printer
cartridge.)
A free
user-installable Service Station Upgrade Kit is
available for the original HP DeskJet and DeskJet
Plus printers. To request a kit, call the HP Customer
Support Center:
If the above steps haven't taken care of your
printing problems, it may be time to replace the
print cartridge or call our service department for an
appointment.
